IKEA’s Fairfax Corner planning showroom will close November 30, 2026. It is one of three small-format locations in the company’s latest closure announcement, all in the Washington region. The new Chantilly store is a separate location and remains open.

Which IKEA locations are closing?

  • Georgetown, Washington, DC: October 18, 2026.
  • Annapolis, Maryland: October 31, 2026.
  • Fairfax Corner, Virginia: November 30, 2026.

IKEA confirms the Fairfax date on its official store page. Its Annapolis page lists October 31; earlier coverage listed October 30. We are using the date currently posted by IKEA. The Georgetown date comes from Retail Dive’s October 2 report.

What is the Fairfax location?

The showroom is at 4206 Fairfax Corner Avenue, Suite H206B, in Fairfax Corner. It is a Plan & Order Point with pickup, where customers work with planners on kitchens, closets and other home projects. It does not carry a warehouse of merchandise to take home after browsing.

IKEA says it is continuing to invest in delivery, pickup and online shopping. Its Fairfax notice directs customers to Woodbridge, College Park and the Gaithersburg planning location as alternatives.

Didn’t IKEA just open in Chantilly?

Yes. IKEA’s Chantilly store page confirms a June 18, 2026 opening. That puts the Fairfax closure a little over five months later.

Northern Virginia Magazine reports that the Chantilly store occupies 107,000 square feet in the former Dulles Expo Center. Unlike the planning showroom, Chantilly offers merchandise for immediate purchase as well as ordering options.

The timeline is striking. But timing alone does not establish that Chantilly caused the Fairfax closure. The confirmed picture is that IKEA opened a larger local store while closing three smaller regional locations.

What happens to customers and employees?

According to Retail Dive, customers with projects underway can continue with other local IKEA locations or remote planning support. Affected employees will have opportunities to relocate to nearby stores. Anyone with an active Fairfax order should confirm their pickup arrangements and planning contact with IKEA before the closure.

What does this mean for Fairfax Corner?

The local real estate question is what eventually fills the showroom space. The sources reviewed for this story do not identify a replacement tenant.

For nearby residents, the immediate change is practical: where to meet a designer, collect an order or shop for home furnishings. One tenant’s departure does not establish a trend in surrounding home values. The next lease, the use of the space and how it fits the center’s other businesses will be more useful to watch.

Quick questions

Is IKEA leaving Northern Virginia?

No. This announcement concerns the Fairfax planning showroom. Chantilly and Woodbridge remain shopping options.

When does the Fairfax showroom close?

November 30, 2026, according to IKEA’s posted notice.

Can I still work on a kitchen or closet project?

Yes. Ask IKEA to confirm which nearby location or remote planner will handle your project and any outstanding orders.

Is a replacement tenant confirmed?

Not in the sources reviewed for this article. We are not naming a prospective replacement without an announcement.

Should homeowners change renovation plans because of this?

Confirm your ordering and installation arrangements first. A showroom closure alone is not a reason to change a project that otherwise fits your home, budget and timeline.
