Vienna’s Halloween parade is a chance to experience the town on foot, with a little planning before you leave home. The town lists the 2026 event for Wednesday, October 28, from 7 to 9 p.m., with free admission.

The essentials

The Town of Vienna event listing identifies Maple Avenue between Branch Road and Center Street South as the viewing area. Its parade includes floats, bands and costumed participants. Check the official page again before leaving for any changes.

Road closures start well before the parade

The parade begins at 7 p.m., but the town’s traffic changes begin in the afternoon. That matters whether you are attending, picking someone up or simply trying to cross Vienna after work.

  • 1 p.m.: Mill Street closes between Church Street NE and Maple Avenue East.
  • 2 p.m.: Curbside lanes on Maple Avenue between Center Street and Branch Road close. The town says the two center traffic lanes remain available until 6:30 p.m.
  • 4:45 p.m. onward: Closures begin on streets used for parade staging, including parts of Locust, Branch and Berry. Additional closures follow at 5 and 6 p.m.
  • 6:30 p.m.: Maple Avenue closes from Lawyers Road NW to East Street SE. Business driveways on Maple between Center and Berry also close.

Some streets are scheduled to reopen when the parade finishes, around 8:30–9 p.m.; other closures last until approximately 11 p.m. Use the town’s complete route and closure guide for your specific approach. The viewing segment and the larger closure area are not the same thing.

Where to watch—and accessible parking

Viewing is along Maple Avenue between Branch Road and Center Street. The town plans temporary pedestrian fencing along both sides, plus fencing around streetscape planters. Keep chairs and spectators out of the street before, during and after the parade, as the town instructs.

For vehicles with accessible tags or license plates, the town identifies designated parking on Church Street between Dominion Road and Park Street, in front of the Freeman Store and Museum and Vienna Presbyterian Church. That identifies the designated area; it does not guarantee a space will be available when you arrive.

Watching and participating are different plans

The official parade details list a Haunted History: 250 Years of America theme. Organized-entry applications are closed; applicants are due to hear their status by October 12. The town separately invites children and accompanying parents in costume to meet at United Bank, 374 Maple Avenue East, at 6 p.m. without registration. Confirm these instructions on the current town page before joining.

Goodie bags and an easier evening

Children attending or marching can pick up a free goodie bag at the Caffi Field pitching lanes on Cherry Street SE, between the community center and volunteer fire department. Distribution is scheduled to begin at 7:15 p.m. The town says the items are donated by local businesses and sponsors.

Think about layers, comfortable shoes and how long everyone wants to stay. Keep the plan flexible enough to leave early if needed. If you hope to eat nearby, check the restaurant’s own hours and reservation policy; a place being near the route does not establish that it will have a table available.

A simple plan is enough: decide how you will arrive, choose a viewing area, agree on a meeting point and leave room for the unexpected. Avoid turning an easy local outing into a schedule with no margin.

Considering living in Vienna?

An event can show you one side of a community. Return on an ordinary weekday before deciding whether the location fits your routine. Try the trip from a prospective home to work and errands, and check the actual walking route rather than judging distance from a map alone. Festival-night activity and a typical evening are different experiences; seeing both gives you a better basis for comparison.
