A planned recreation complex near Purcellville is worth following for its potential everyday uses—and for the questions still being addressed about its surroundings. Monday’s public meeting is a chance to hear about those details before construction.

When and where to go

The county’s October 7 announcement schedules the meeting for Monday, October 19, 2026, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Loudoun Valley High School cafeteria, 340 N. Maple Avenue, Purcellville. Groundwater, field lighting, roads and the schedule are on the agenda. Comments can also be submitted through the project page or by calling 703-737-8624.

What is planned

The project page identifies a 96,000-square-foot recreation center on roughly 143 acres at 36716 Main Street, outside Purcellville’s town limits. Plans include fitness facilities, a gym, indoor track and aquatics, plus four diamond and four rectangular athletic fields. The project is in design.

A potential future 40,000-square-foot library is a master-planning item. Readers should not treat that as an included library opening announcement.

The timeline needs clarification

The newer October 7 news release estimates a spring 2027 construction start and summer 2030 completion. The project page’s timeline still lists fall 2029 completion, with separate park and recreation-center starts. These are inconsistent county estimates, not a confirmed public opening date. Asking the project team which schedule supersedes the other is worthwhile.

Four practical questions to bring

  • Access: Which entrances and road improvements would serve the busiest arrival and departure periods?
  • Lighting: What operating hours and controls would limit light beyond the fields?
  • Water: How will groundwater use be measured and communicated to nearby residents?
  • Phasing: Would any amenities open before the whole complex is complete, and what must happen first?

These are questions for the meeting, not findings that traffic, lighting or water impacts have been resolved. A useful answer should identify a plan, a responsible party and the next decision point.

What it means for a home search

A planned amenity can help you imagine a future routine. Your purchase decision still needs to work with what is available today. Map the actual route from a home, try it at the time you would normally travel and compare existing recreation options. Proximity on a map does not establish a convenient trip, and a proposed amenity does not establish a property-value increase.

Five quick questions

Is the complex open?

No. The county identifies the current phase as design.

Is the meeting at the project site?

No. It is at Loudoun Valley High School.

What is the latest completion estimate?

The October 7 release says summer 2030; the project page still has an earlier estimate.

Is a new library guaranteed in this project?

No. The library reference concerns a potential future location.

Can I comment without attending?

Yes. Use the county’s project-page comment form or the phone number above.
